jigging for cod

i booked a trip on 14th on the viking. i want to catch cod on jig. is 10oz to 16oz too big for cod? what about teaser? thanks.

The size you mention is what you need. For a teaser go with a reddish (red,orange,dark pink) color 6" long twister tail/jelly worm. I'd also use jigs with single hook with the twister on the jig.

For the area Viking fishes, you'll probably be okay with 6 or 8 oz jigs.

As for teasers, I like to use soft plastics like Lunker City Fin-S Fish 5-3/4" in rainbow trout and Bill Hurley Cape Cod Sand Eel 7-1/4" in pink. All the cod I caught last week on Frances Fleet were on teasers.

You would be wise to big some heavier than that. Only once and awhile can you use 6oz most times 8 to 12's but it is advisable to bring one or two larger.

the trip is cancel. will try again next saturday.

6oz to 12oz diamond jig is good.
